Canal Winchester City Council will institute changes to its meeting schedules starting in August.
“We’ve been meeting about changes with the rules committee over the past couple months and we’ve decided that we’ll have two meetings before council per month, starting in August,” Councilman Joe Abbott said.
“We think this will limit the number of people we have to have at each meeting, and with the safety and the services committees meeting together, it allows (Public Service Director) Matt Peoples’ crew to be heard all in one night while (Development Director) Lucas Haire and his crew coming together with Old Town and the finance committee in one night,” Finance Director Nanisa Osborn said.
The schedule is more considerate of the staff’s evening schedules as well, she said.
“The idea is that before the first city council meeting of the month, we’ll have a finance and an Old Town committee meeting, beginning at 5:45 p.m., if both need to meet. Otherwise, we’ll begin at 6 p.m.,” Osborn said. “On the third Monday of the month, we’ll have safety and service committee meetings before that second city council meeting. The only other option we’d have is to move other meetings around on other nights.”
Prior to transitioning into the new meeting schedule, several meetings have been canceled for July, which, according to Osborn, is generally a slow month for city business.
The canceled July meetings include:
* Safety committee, July 5
* Old Town committee, July 9
* Service committee, July 16
* City council, July 16.
Beginning in August, the new committee meeting schedule will be:
* Old Town and finance committees, 5:45 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6
* City council, 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6
* Safety and services committees, 5:45 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20
* City council, 7 p.m., Monday, Aug. 20
All the meetings will be held at Town Hall, 10 N. High St. City meetings not mentioned in the above schedule will continue to be held according to their current schedules.
