Madison Township officials hope to receive around $10,000 in federal funds to help cover the costs of dealing with storms in June and July.

Trustees held an emergency meeting Sept. 5 to approve submitting documents to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and to authorize Township Administrator Susan Brobst to sign the necessary documents so they could be submitted on time.

Applications for storm damage reimbursements through FEMA must be turned in before trustees’ next regularly scheduled meeting on Sept. 19.

Representatives from FEMA and several central Ohio municipalities met last month, according to Brobst.

“What we know right now from that initial meeting is that we can’t claim everything we were hoping to claim, but any little bit helps,” Brobst said. “From our meetings from last month, we have overtime and equipment fees that we’ll be able to collect and FEMA will cover a portion of the insurance deductible for some minor building damage.

“We were extremely lucky we weren’t hit bad like some places,” she said.

Also during the emergency meeting the trustees entered into executive session to discuss possible disciplinary actions against a Madison Township Fire Department employee and to discuss undisclosed police matters.

According to Brobst, trustees took no action on either matter.

The next trustees’ meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m., Sept. 19 at the community center, 4575 Madison Lane.
