Groveport residents elected one new city council member and retained three incumbents Nov. 5.

Longtime council member Jan Stoots chose not to run for re-election this year. That left incumbents Edward G. Dildine, Donna Drury and Ed Rarey, along with newcomers James H. Chilton and Becky Hutson attempting to secure one of four seats on council.

According to the Franklin County Board of Elections, as of 9:02 p.m. Tuesday, with four of four precincts reporting, unofficial results showed Dildine retaining his seat on council, where he currently serves as president pro-tem, for a third term after receiving 548 votes, or 22.34 percent. He campaigned on a promise to continue to grow the city with common-sense leadership and continued development through the capital planning process.

Drury was re-elected to a fourth term on council after receiving 501 votes, or 20.42 percent. She said she’s proud of the work she’s been a part of including the completion of the recreation center and the purchase of the golf course, and promises “more exciting developments are on the way.”

Rarey also was re-elected for a fourth term, garnering 523 votes, or 21.32 percent. His campaign focused on providing safe walkways for residents, particularly for senior citizens and children.

Hutson – who is Dildine’s sister – ran her campaign on a platform of hoping to better serve the residents of Groveport, and to drive greater interest in city government. She won the fourth seat with 489 votes, or 19.93 percent.

Chilton, a retiree and longtime Groveport resident ran a campaign based on his desire to work for residents, hoping to continue to improve on what he said was a great city. Chilton received 392 votes, or 15.98 percent.
