A new assisted-living facility to be built on Winchester Boulevard is expected to bring an additional 25 to 30 full-time jobs and 25 part-time jobs to Canal Winchester.

Construction started at the beginning of August on the Inn at Winchester Trail, although the official groundbreaking ceremony wasn’t scheduled until 10 a.m. Aug. 21.

The nearly $12-million project at 6401 Winchester Blvd. is being developed by the Jerry McClain Co. of Newark.

Company spokesman Drew McClain said plans are to have the 117-bed, single-story facility open and ready for residents by July 2015.

“This will be an assisted-living facility with an Alzheimer’s wing,” he said. “Those residing here will consist of senior citizens who need some moderate assistance with their daily needs — but it’s not a nursing home, as it sometimes gets confused with. We do not provide full skilled care.”

As designed, the facility will include a large dining hall, theater, pub, chapel and a large enclosed courtyard surrounded by multiple common living areas, along with other amenities, McClain said.

Canal Winchester Planning and Zoning Administrator Chad Flowers said the Inn at Winchester Trail is approved for a future expansion to accommodate an additional 35 residents, if the developer chooses to add on to the facility later, creating room for 152 residents in total.

McClain said working with the city on this development, the company’s 23rd such project, has been a pleasure.

“Our company really appreciates the efforts of Lucas Haire, Chad Flowers and the rest of the staff,” he said. “They have helped tremendously in making this project a reality in such a timely manner.”
