The city of Groveport has received an Achievement of Excellence in Financial Reporting award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada.
The nonprofit group serves approximately 17,500 public finance professionals in North America.
GFOA spokesman Stephen Gauthier said the award is “the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting” and represents “a significant accomplishment.”
City Finance Director Jeff Green said he was thrilled to receive the recognition and is already aiming for a repeat next year.
“This is a very prestigious award and it’s the first time we’ve received it in a very long time, so we’re excited,” Green said. “We’re going to go for it again … and hopefully, we’ll have time to get our documents submitted for review to win an Auditor of State award as well.”
He said the space in the Municipal Building that had been occupied by the city’s police department until it moved to new headquarters on Clyde Moore Drive will be used for the city’s annual audit, which he believes also will make future year-end analyses smoother.
“Now that the detectives are out of the basement, we’ll be able to set the auditors up down there, along with all of the financial files in one room, so they will be able to just do the work they need to do without as much hunting around for documents or intrusion by our staff,” Green said.
