The Mid-Ohio Foodbank will once again offer free, fresh produce to Madison Township residents in need this summer.

Last year’s first Produce Market Program in Madison Township was so well-received that the food bank has decided to host one in the area again. According to Mid-Ohio Foodbank spokeswoman Yolanda Owens, the agency will hold 600 of these events across central Ohio this growing season.

The Produce Market Program offers more than 10,000 pounds of fresh produce, bread and bakery products at each event, to be distributed to as many as 200 families per market, she said.

The free farmers market-style events do not require any financial qualification.

They will take place from 9-11 a.m. Saturday, May 17, and Saturday, June 14, and are hosted by the New Beginning Christian Center, located at 3424 S. Hamilton Road.

Madison Township Administrator Susan Brobst said the program is a welcome addition to the other support services available in the area, including the Groveport Madison Center for Human Needs, Canal Winchester Human Services and the Community Food Pantry, also in Canal Winchester.

“The partnership between Mid-Ohio Foodbank and the New Beginning Christian Center to offer a community farmers market brings a much-needed opportunity to the residents in the township,” Brobst said. “We hope that residents share this information with their neighbors and spread the word.”
