Canal Winchester Human Services is hoping to make nearly 100 families’ wishes come true this holiday season, thanks to its Adopt-a-Family program.
“Last year, the program assisted 90 families, which included about 300 individuals,” Human Services executive director Penny Miller said. “There is no doubt that the demand for assistance will be significantly higher this year as the demand for all the programs we administer have seen increases in 2011.”
The program requires a family in need to complete an application form. This provides Human Services with information about children’s clothing sizes as well as a gift “wish list” from adoptees.
“There are many opportunities to be a giver, and any way you choose will be appreciated,” Miller said. “Participation can include adopting a child or family, sponsoring or contributing to a gift card tree, a food drive or a toy drive, etc. “
Since 1955, the program has been providing for Canal Winchester’s needy children, and in 2005, it expanded to provide wider assistance for the whole family, according to the organization’s website.
“For the fourth year, we will accept good, clean, used coats for distribution. Financial contributions are also appreciated and will be used to support children and families that we are unable to adopt this year,” Miller said. “We hope that everyone in a position to give will partner with Human Services to make the holidays a little better for our neighbors in need.”
Families who would like to receive assistance through the Adopt-a-Family program can pick up applications at the Community Center (22 S. Trine St.) or may download and print one from the website at www.cwhumanservices.org. Applications must be postmarked by Nov. 30 to be considered.
Donors and individuals interested in adopting a family this holiday season should contact Human Services by emailing Miller at buttonbow @aol.com or calling (614) 834-3888. Financial donations should be made payable to Canal Winchester Human Services.
