Groveport is offering a new series of hour-long midday programs called Tuesdays@ One, hoping to attract adults who are short on time during their day.

Tuesdays@One includes a variety of free programs on topics ranging from cupcake decorating and tea tasting to lectures about area history. The community affairs staff is hoping to have something for everyone, director Linda Haley said.

“The one-hour time period is appealing to people with busy lives,” she said. “The series is designed for those people who prefer to attend daytime programming. That might include stay-at-home parents, second- or third-shift workers or people using their lunch break to learn something new.

“While the classes are targeted to the adult participant, children are certainly welcome.”

The sessions will be held at Groveport Town Hall, 648 Main St., beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2, and continuing every Tuesday after that, same time and location.

“We’ll have a combination of both hands-on programs and lectures,” Haley said. “We have a couple speakers in October and in November, we’ll have a lecture about Gettysburg and another by Warren Motts about the museum.

“People that haven’t visited the museum would be surprised by the artifacts there,” she added. “We really strive to connect the community with its resources.”

Tuesdays@One in October will include:

* Oct. 2: Cupcake decorating and tea tasting.

* Oct. 9: History of Apple Butter Day by Heritage Society President Carla Cramer.

* Oct. 16: Movie and popcorn screening of Agatha Christie’s Partners in Crime.

* Oct. 23: Decorate a wooden tray with a fall theme.

* Oct. 30: Getting gardens ready for spring with Groveport Garden Club’s Joe Stewart.

Registration is preferred, Haley said, to assure enough supplies are available for everyone, but the events are free. Participants are asked to call the community affairs department at 614-836-3333 to register.

“We have most of our November Tuesdays@One slots planned, but we’re also looking for suggestions about what people want to learn, or if someone has a passion about something they want to share,” Haley said. “Even if you aren’t familiar with the topic, I encourage you to come out. Besides being a weekly event to look forward to, it is a great opportunity to meet other curious and thoughtful people in our area.”
