Organizers hope this year’s Canal Winchester Art Stroll will stride past last year’s successful event with more art and artists.

The second annual Art Stroll will take place from 2 to 8 p.m., Saturday, May 11, at several locations in the historic downtown area of Canal Winchester. Participation is free and open to the public.

“We were amazed at the turnout last year and with Carolyn Sittler chairing the event again this year, we hope we might double the size of the event,” Canal Winchester Art Guild president Linda Henry Boving said. “This event is a great way to promote the arts in Canal Winchester and surrounding area and to encourage artists to grow in their work.”

Attendees are invited to leisurely stroll through the historic district, where several artists’ studios and galleries will be open for talking with artists and viewing their work.

“A wide variety of art and mediums will be displayed, including a quilt exhibit at the Senior Center, Canal Winchester student art show at Shade’s Pine Room and entertainment,” Boving said.

Some entertainment highlights will include performances by the Canal Winchester High School Steel Drum Band from 3 to 4 p.m. and the strolling barbershop quartet Out Burst from 4 to 6 p.m. Harvest Moon Cafe will host music on the patio from 6 to 8 p.m.

According to Sittler, the Art Guild will host a calendar competition in the Prentiss School, where people may vote on their favorite pieces for a “Doors and Windows of Canal Winchester” calendar for 2014.

Children are invited to participate in sidewalk chalk art and face painting on Oak Street from 2 to 4 p.m., and a miniature train will be on display at the historic Train Depot. Food tents sponsored by David’s United Church of Christ will be located near the Train Depot.

The Canal Winchester Historical Society will host tours of the Ed Jeffers Barbershop Museum throughout the day.

“Besides the artists in galleries and studios, there will also be artist tents and food on Oak Street,” Sittler said. “A wide variety of art and mediums, including paintings, glass, jewelry, collage, photography, wood, sculpture, fiber arts and mixed media will be available — just in time to find that special gift for Mother’s Day.”

Parking will be available in the public lots and on the streets in downtown Canal Winchester. More information is available online at www.cwartguild. org.
