Canal Winchester officials hope new business and residential investment along Diley Road will spur even more investment and help to fill the soon-to-be-vacated TS Trim plant at Diley Road and Dove Parkway.
The company has moved to larger space at 6380 Canal St.
As a result, TS Trim was awarded a new partnership with Honda of America, adding 41 new employees to the current 400. The move to the Canal Street site will allow the company to combine all operations in one facility.
TS Trim is the largest employer in Canal Winchester.
“TS Trim completed their move into their new building on Canal Street on July 8,” city Development Director Lucas Haire said. “They will continue moving items and preparing to vacate the 120,000-square-foot space at 8170 Dove Parkway by Sept. 1.”
At that point, the building will be made available for lease. According to Haire, the city is actively marketing the location, the largest currently available industrial space in Canal Winchester.
“This will be a great asset, to have vacant industrial space,” he said. “We have submitted a number of proposals and taken companies on tours of the space but don’t have anyone committed to the space yet.
“We are looking forward to attracting a new company with new employment opportunities for our residents to this building.”
Two other businesses adjacent to the Dove Parkway property are in expansion mode: AK Athletic Equipment Inc. and Lucky Bones Inc. are both planning larger facilities on Howe Industrial Parkway in the Canal Pointe Industry & Commerce Park just off Diley Road.
Haire said he hopes a new McDonald’s being constructed just south of the location at 7620 Diley Road might also spur more restaurant development nearby.
“There are very few options for eating lunch in this area and this will be a great asset for the employees who work in the Canal Pointe Industry & Commerce Park,” Haire said. “Hopefully, other restaurateurs will take notice that there is a growing residential neighborhood and employment center in this area that would make for a great customer base.”
As for residential growth, a 192-unit apartment complex has been approved for 30 acres off Diley Road southeast of Busey Road, across from the Canal Pointe Industry & Commerce Park.
Representatives from the developer, Redwood Acquisitions, have said they anticipate phase one of that project will be completed by the middle of 2014.
