Canal Winchester Human Services is gearing up for its yearly Tools for Schools program to provide students with book bags and school supplies for the coming school year.

Human Services Administrator Penny Miller said the organization distributed more than 125 book bags last year to students in the Canal Winchester and Bloom Carroll school districts. Each bag was filled with grade-appropriate school supplies.

“This project is for children in the Canal Winchester and Bloom Carroll districts who can’t afford to purchase their own supplies,” Miller said. “And we’re anticipating that this year, the need will be even greater.”

Donations of all types of school supplies and new book bags can be dropped off at the following locations throughout Canal Winchester:

* Community Center, 22 S. Trine St.

* Community Food Pantry, 360 W. Waterloo St.

* Curves, 6480 Winchester Blvd.

* David’s United Church of Christ, 80 W. Columbus St.

* Hope United Methodist Church, 83 E. Columbus St.

“We’re also asking for financial donations, which will be used to purchase any additional supplies that may not have been provided for through direct donations,” Miller said. “Those donations are tax-deductible.”

Financial contributions should be mailed to Canal Winchester Human Services, 22 S. Trine St., Canal Winchester, Ohio 43110 and should note that the money is meant for the Tools for Schools program.

Families in need of support from the Tools for Schools program may call 614-834-3888 or email Miller at penny.cwhs@gmail.com.
