A double treat is in store for visitors to Groveport Sept. 22 when participants in the annual Groveport Classic Car Show and the Taste of Groveport set up along Main Street.

Both are scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. and both draw several hundred people each year, according to organizer Terri Christensen.

Christensen is also the executive director of the Southeast Franklin County Chamber of Commerce, which hosts these events in conjunction with the city of Groveport.

“Last year, the weather was an issue, so we’re hoping that with some cooperation from the weather, we’ll have our normal, great turnout again this year,” she said. “This hometown car show is a great family activity with food vendors, some music, lots of beautiful cars to look at and friends to see. And it’s free to come and have a look.”

According to Christensen, the event usually attracts about 100 classic cars with a variety of awards handed out at the end of the day, including a People’s Choice Award — voted on by attendees — as well as Best of Show and Mayor’s Choice.

Registration is $15 per vehicle, motorcycles included. Registration runs from noon until 1 p.m. with awards being given out at 5 p.m. The first 100 entrants will receive a T-shirt and a dashboard plaque.

The Taste of Groveport and Madison Township Food Competition registration also will begin at noon in Town Hall, 648 Main St. Registration is free, and judging will take place between 1 and 2 p.m.

Organizer Donna Drury said once judging is complete, the public will be invited to taste all of the dishes.

“People really enjoy this event and we usually have about 50 to 60 entries,” Drury said. “The highlight is the open public tasting once the judging is done; people love to come in and taste the food their friends and neighbors have made.”

Adult participants, age 15 and older, can enter dishes in these categories: appetizer, entree, cakes, pies and other desserts. Youth participants, those younger than 15, can enter either cookies or cupcakes.

Awards will be given based on both taste and appearance, with a first and second place in each category, as well as a Best of Show.
