The first week of the new year was busy with swearing-in ceremonies for new and returning members of Canal Winchester and Groveport city councils and the Madison Township board of trustees.
Canal Winchester held an official swearing-in ceremony on Monday, Jan. 6, prior to the start of the first city council meeting of 2014. Mayor Michael Ebert administered oaths of office to council members Will Bennett, Steve Donahue, Bobbie Mershon and James Wynkoop.
This will be Bennett’s first time serving on city council. Wynkoop has served on city council previously but was not currently a member, while Donahue and Mershon are both incumbents.
Groveport’s new and returning city council members were sworn in individually in private ceremonies held throughout the first week of January as opposed to one public ceremony. The city welcomed one new member of council, Becky Hutson, and three incumbents: Edward G. Dildine, Donna Drury and Ed Rarey.
Madison Township trustees similarly did not host a public swearing-in ceremony for the two returning board members, Victor Paini and Edward Dildine (father of Groveport City Council members Becky Hutson and Edward G. Dildine).
Paini, however, chose to hold a public swearing-in ceremony at Canal Winchester’s historic Town Hall building on Friday, Jan. 3. Congressman Steve Stivers was on hand to administer the oath of office.
