The beauty of spring isn’t just found in blossoming flowers, but also in the arts, and downtown Canal Winchester will have both in bloom during the Canal Winchester Art Guild’s third annual Art Stroll from 2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 10.
This year’s Art Stroll is once again free and open to the public. Works of art will be displayed downtown along High Street, in businesses and in studios throughout the historic district, and on the lawn behind Stradley Park.
“Canal Winchester has been blessed with a robust art community,” organizer and Art Guild president Linda Boving said. “The stroll has brought a vast amount of local talent to the attention of our community and surrounding areas, and continues to do so.”
The theme of this year’s Art Stroll is “The Gardens and Pathways of Canal Winchester,” and the event will feature a competition voted on by the public. Pieces entered in the competition will be displayed and voted on in Town Hall, 10 N. High St.
The Canal Winchester Art Guild hosts the event each year. The Art Stroll attracts hundreds of visitors to enjoy everything Canal Winchester has to offer, including the nearly two dozen businesses and studios that donate display space for artists.
The Wakefold Jazz Quartet from Capital University will perform, and children will be able to take advantage of face painting and sidewalk chalk art at Stradley Park. The Quilters on the Canal quilting group will host an exhibition of their work at the Canal Winchester Community Center, 22 Trine St., and the Canal Winchester Historical Society will host tours of the Ed Jeffers Barber Museum, 2 S. High St.
“We are very appreciative of the local businesses and individuals who have supported the stroll and helped make it a success,” Boving said.
“The part of our mission statement that means the most to me as guild president is, ‘to foster and to encourage others in artistic development.’ I’m pleased to say that guild membership has doubled since we began this event and we look forward to its continued growth.”
More than three dozen artists will display their work at the Art Stroll, covering a wide variety of artistic mediums, including paintings, collage, glass, wood, jewelry, photography, pottery, fiber arts and mixed media.
Maps of where each artist’s work is located, as well as of special event locations, will be available everywhere the art is displayed, Boving said.
