Summer doesn’t officially start until June 21, but the pools in Canal Winchester and Groveport are open for the season.
The Groveport Recreation Center opened its outdoor pool Memorial Day weekend, while Canal Winchester opened its pool Thursday, May 29, for the 2014 swimming season. Both are selling season passes as well as day passes.
The recreation center is located at 7370 Groveport Road.
Canal Winchester’s pool, 180 Groveport Road, will be open daily from noon to 8 p.m. through Aug. 31. Columbus Pool Management is finalizing swim lesson schedules, with sessions to be held Monday through Thursday over a two-week period.
Sign up for lessons begins with the opening of the pool.
Memberships at Canal Winchester’s pool can be purchased at the Municipal Building, 36 S. High St., during regular business hours. For families within the corporate limits, the cost is $190; the cost for those who live outside city limits is $230. Individuals will pay either $100 or $115. A 10-day pass is available for $40.
The normal day rate is $5 per person.
Senior citizens may use the facilities at no charge. Discounts are available for military personnel and passes purchased after July 5.
Groveport’s outdoor pool will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 8 p.m. on Sundays, until Aug. 17. After that, the pool will be open for limited hours through closing on Labor Day, Sept. 1.
Daily rates start at $6 per person, with a 10-day pass starting at $50. Memberships at Groveport’s pool are also based on residency, with individual resident passes costing $80 and non-resident passes priced at $120; senior memberships cost $40 or $60; senior couples memberships cost $70 or $110.
A household of two will pay $140 or $210; a household of three will pay $190 or $285; and a membership for a household of four or more costs $235 or $353, depending on residency.
