IF ONLY THE NAMES WERE CHANGED
Andrew Miller

“With evocative and compelling prose, Andrew Miller’s If Only The Names Were Changed melds the personal and the political, first-hand introspection on mental illness and drug abuse with poetic digressions and anti-authoritarian screeds.”

“Andrew Miller’s If Only the Names Were Changed is the immensity of self turned into sharp, dangerous literature.”

(Upper Arlington, OH) A community of civic minded and enthusiastic individuals can only improve their community if they know how to successfully put their ideas and enthusiasm to work.

Leadership UA finds opportunities to educate, engage and inspire these leaders to take an active, effective role in Upper Arlington.

On Thursday, April 7th, Leadership UA will host a community service event, A Call to Public Service: Everything you wanted to know about serving Upper Arlington.

This event will feature a round-table conversation, hosted by assistant city manager Joe Valentino, featuring current and former city leaders: current council and former school board members, Ed Seidel and Mary Anne Krauss; current council member Debbie Johnson; former council member Linda Mauger; BZAP chairman T.J. Riley; and current school board member Gloria Heydlauff.

The conversation will focus on how to apply to city boards and commissions or how to run for office; and, once appointed or elected, what makes for a successful term as a public official.

“Leadership UA believes that the residents are our community’s greatest asset and we want to make sure that they have the resources available to them to use their knowledge, skills and energy to contribute to the continued improvement of our city,” Leadership UA president Andrew Miller said.

City manager, Virginia Barney, agrees, “Upper Arlington’s greatest strength is the talents that our residents bring to the table.”

Event organizers hope residents will leave this event with a better understanding of what it means to serve the community, and the knowledge to take part in public service if they are so inspired to do so.

“It is a great privilege to serve your neighbors and can be very satisfying,” Barney said.

The event is free and open to the public; it will take place at the Upper Arlington Municipal Building, 3600 Tremont Rd., in the lower-level conference room from 6:00 to 8:00p.m.
